Success Stories of SORDEC

Year 2005-06 was a successful year for SORDEC because it got registration of Societies Act. Members of SORDEC did splendid job in all aspects of the society to achieve our organizational goal. For better management of the organization, the whole activities of the SORDEC is divided into two categories viz. Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) and Nature Conservation Programme (NCP). EDP that is consisting of two sub programmes namely Sericulture Promotion programme (SPP) and Livestock Development programme (LDP). Significant works carried out under SSP are production of mulberry cocoons, yarns and construction of mulberry rearing house. Beneficiaries has already started mulberry cultivation in their rearing houses but distress sale due to lack of definite market of farm produced, demoralize cocoon growers. Rural people of Kaliabor sub division are also started getting benefit from Live Stock Development programme, under which several programme already being conducted in the greater Kaliabor. From the very beginning, SORDEC has been giving maximum priority to rural women and encourage them to participate in the SORDEC’s developmental programme. In this connection member of SORDEC is motivating rural women to engage themselves in Sericulture Promotion programme, through which they will be financially sounder than before. From the time of inception SORDEC is putting its effort on conservation of nature and natural resources. To protect the fragile wetland ecosystem of the greater Kaliabor SORDEC has already published a leaflet emphasizing the conservation of biodiversity of wetland. Considering greater interest of the common people, many organizations like Assam cooperative Jute mills Ltd, Silghat, Department of Agriculture, Kailiabor financially assisted SORDEC for publishing printed materials on the matter of conservation of nature, which were subsequently distributed to common people.

Till this time socio-economic condition of rural people in our state is miserable. After 50 years of independence of our country, we are not able to make our village self-reliant that was a dream of our father of nation. Though govt. has launched several schemes to change existing scenario but due to improper implementation and lack of regular supervision makes the schemes unsuccessful one. The only answer is achieving overall growth in agricultural sector and effective marketing of the farm produced, which can bring colorful revolution in villages that will subsequently make our villages self reliant. Let us make up our mind to follow the Gandhian principles to reduce the differences of economic development of village and the urban people to fulfill the father of nation’s dream  “GRAM SWARAJ”.
